About Me

My name is Kylee, and I am an aspiring Deaf Educator.

All my life I have wanted to be a teacher. The second I set foot in my kindergarten class, I knew that I had to teach to be happy. Flash forward to high school, where I randomly transferred into a sign language class because my friend was in it and I was having a hard time in another class. I was thinking that I would get my foreign language credit, graduate, and head straight to an elementary education program for a bachelors degree and call it good.

Boy was I wrong.

Within days, I fell in love with the Deaf culture and everything it represents. The people, the language, the passion...everything. I knew I had to be apart of this amazing world forever. So, after considering interpreting and teaching ASL to high school students, it finally occurred to me that I could have both of the things I loved most—elementary education and Deaf culture.

Now, over 7 years later, I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and I have one year left before I get a Master's degree in Deaf Education. I firmly believe in a bilingual/bicultural approach, and I plan to open my own deaf school someday to make a permanent mark in the Deaf community. I will make a difference in the way deaf children are taught all across the country, and possibly even the world.
